Spiritual House Cleaning

Everyone knows of the term Spring Cleaning, where a person goes through all of their possessions and casts out what they no longer use or need. In the process they also clean their home thoroughly (every corner and inch thereof). Spiritual House Cleaning is a little different from Spring Cleaning, but it can follow similar guidelines.

When a person performs Spiritual House Cleaning, they go through their home examining each item to see if it holds any unrighteous ties. A person is basically cleaning their home from all unrighteousness and anything that may be against the ways of God. Making sure to not allow for anyway that the enemy may find its way into their home or lives.

For example; items which may reference worldly or demonic nature such as…superstitious items, good luck items, movies which contain unsuitable content, music that may contain profanity, books which hold inappropriate content by the standards of God. We as followers of Jesus should be filling our eyes, ears, mind, and other senses with all that is righteous and which links us closely to our future eternal home and our Father in Heaven. What we take in through our senses, we also open a door unto. Would you rather open a door to God or to the sinful nature of this world?

Once we discover undesirable items in the home, we are not to give them away or sell them. For what does giving them away or selling them do, but put what is not right for us into the hands of someone else. What is not right for us, is also not right for another. Whether or not a person receiving such items believes in God, we are not to give them items which would further their disobedience, rather give them things of truth and righteousness that will bring the light of Jesus into their lives. So let us not pass on our unrighteous items to another, but rather destroy them.

You shall burn the carved images of their gods with fire; you shall not covet the silver or gold that is on them, nor take it for yourselves, lest you be snared by it; for it is an abomination to the LORD your God. Nor shall you bring an abomination into your house, lest you be doomed to destruction like it. You shall utterly detest it and utterly abhor it, for it is an accursed thing (Deuteronomy 7:25-26).

Many of them also which used curious arts brought their books together, and burned them before all men: and they counted the price of them, and found it fifty thousand pieces of silver (Acts 19:19).
