You shall have no other gods before Me. You shall not make for yourself a carved image–any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; you shall not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me, but showing mercy to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments-Exodus 20:3-6.
Have you loved God above all else? Is there a priority which you set before spending time with God, have you always made God first in your life? Where do you spend the majority of your time? Then you have committed idolatry and you are an idolater.
You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not hold him guiltless who takes His name in vain-Exodus 20:7.
Have you ever used the name of God or Jesus as an exclamation or in place of a swear word? Have you used either the name of God or Jesus in any way other than to speak about them, pray to them, or praise them? Have you ever used the name of God or Jesus to curse or been greedy? Then you have committed blasphemy and you are a blasphemer.
Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all work, but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord your God. In it you shall do no work: you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger who is within your gates. For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it-Exodus 20:8-11.
Have you kept the Sabbath holy?
Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long upon the land which the Lord your God is giving you-Exodus 20:12.
Have you always implicitly honored your parents? Have you obeyed their words without question or complaint? Have you held back wise or sarcastic comments and only given them respect. Have you always talked well of your parents? Have you HONORED them?
You shall not murder-Exodus 20:13.
But I say to you that whoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment. And whoever says to his brother, ‘Raca!’ shall be in danger of the council. But whoever says, ‘You fool!’ shall be in danger of hell fire-Matthew 5:22.
Have you ever hated anyone, even with just your mind? Have you ever felt unrighteous anger towards someone (even without a cause)? Then you have committed murder in your heart and you are a murderer.
You shall not commit adultery-Exodus 20:14.
But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart-Matthew 5:28.
Have you ever looked at someone lustfully with your eyes or mind? Then you have committed adultery in your heart and you are an adulterer.
You shall not steal-Exodus 20:15.
Have you ever stolen anything? Have you stolen an item, time, or taken anything that was not yours? Then you have committed thievery and you are a thief.
You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor-Exodus 20:16.
But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you and persecute you,-Matthew 5:44.
Have you ever said an untruth about someone? Have you spread rumors that were not true?
You shall not covet your neighbor’s house; you shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, nor his male servant, nor his female servant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that is your neighbor’s-Exodus 20:17.
Have you ever wanted something that belonged to someone else and wished it for yourself? Have you ever longed to possess your neighbor’s car, their latest technical gadget, their shoes, their handbag, their furniture, their computer, their hair, their figure?
Have you ever told a lie…white lies, half-truths, exaggerations, or anything that is not the truth (even remaining silent and not declaring something to be untrue, but allowing someone to believe what is no true or accurate)? Then you have committed a lie and you are liar.
…’Whoever divorces his wife, let him give her a certificate of divorce.’-Matthew 5:31.
But I say to you that whoever divorces his wife for any reason except sexual immorality causes her to commit adultery; and whoever marries a woman who is divorced commits adultery-Matthew 5:32.
Have you divorced a man or woman for any reason other than sexual immorality? Have you married a man or woman who has been divorced? Then you have committed adultery or caused someone else to commit adultery and either you or the other person is an adulterer.
Have you broken any of the Ten Commandments?
…’You shall not swear falsely, but shall perform your oaths to the Lord.’-Matthew 5:33
But I say to you, do not swear at all: neither by heaven, for it is God’s throne; nor by the earth, for it is His footstool; nor by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the great King. Nor shall you swear by your head, because you cannot make one hair white or black. But let your ‘Yes’ be ‘Yes,’ and your ‘No,’ ‘No.’ For whatever is more than these is from the evil one-Matthew 5:34-37.
…’An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.’-Matthew 5:38
But I tell you not to resist an evil person. But whoever slaps you on your right cheek, turn the other to him also. If anyone wants to sue you and take away your tunic, let him have your cloak also. And whoever compels you to go one mile, go with him two. Give to him who asks you, and from him who wants to borrow from you do not turn away-Matthew 5:39-42
Breaking the law is considered sin, the price for sin is death.
…”There is none righteous, no, not one;-Romans 3:10
for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, who God set forth as a propitiation by His blood, through faith, to demonstrate His righteousness, because in His forbearance God had passed over the sins that were previously committed, to demonstrate at the present time His righteousness, that He might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus-Romans 3:23-26.
Jesus was spotless without blemish, He knew no sin. He allowed Himself to be put upon a cross and become sin (take all of our past, present, and future sins upon himself). Thereby paying our debt to sin of death, He died. Overcoming death after paying our debt, He rose on the third day after his death. Whosoever may have faith and believe in Jesus, by grace he may have eternal life in heaven. Jesus ascended into heaven and left us with a comforter, the Holy Spirit which dwells within us after we have received the gift of grace.
But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us-Romans 4:8.
that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God-John 3:15-18.
Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life-John 5:24.
…”I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me-John 14:5.
For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast. For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them-Ephesians 2:8-10.
