Follow His Ways…[Be-Part 2]

Church FamilyIn following God’s ways, this is a continuation of how we are to be.

We are to be…

…At peace among selves…

“AND TO ESTEEM THEM VERY HIGHLY IN LOVE FOR THEIR WORK’S SAKE. AND BE AT PEACE AMONG YOURSELVES.” (1 Thessalonians 5:13)

…Patient toward all men…

“NOW WE EXHORT YOU, BRETHREN, WARN THEM THAT ARE UNRULY, COMFORT THE FEEBLEMINDED, SUPPORT THE WEAK, BE PATIENT TOWARD ALL  MEN.” (1 Thessalonians 5:14)

[Feebleminded = weak minded as “feeble” (Oxford, 2006, p.252) means weak]

“AND THE SERVANT OF THE LORD MUST NOT STRIVE; BUT BE GENTLE UNTO ALL MEN, APT  TO TEACH, PATIENT,” (2 Timothy 2:24)

[In the Greek machomai is “strive” or fight: which means to fight, contend in battle, quarrel, wrangle, dispute (Dake, 2011, p. 419 NT)]

…No partaker of sin…

“LAY HANDS SUDDENLY ON NO MAN, NEITHER BE PARTAKER OF OTHER MEN’S SINS: KEEP THYSELF PURE.” (1 Timothy 5:22)

…Sober and hope…

“WHEREFORE GIRD UP THE LOINS OF YOUR MIND, BE SOBER, AND HOPE TO THE END FOR THE GRACE THAT IS TO BE BROUGHT UNTO YOU AT THE REVELATION OF JESUS CHRIST;” (1 Peter 1:13)

“Gird of the loins of your mind…means to brace up and take courage in face of the trials that one is called to go through.” (Dake, 2011, p. 471NT)

…Sober and pray…

“BUT THE END OF ALL THINGS IS AT HAND: BE YE THEREFORE SOBER, AND WATCH UNTO PRAYER.” (1 Peter 4:7)

…Sober, grave, temperate, sound in faith, charity, and patience (for aged men)…

“THAT THE AGED MEN BE SOBER, GRAVE, TEMPERATE, SOUND IN FAITH, IN CHARITY, IN PATIENCE.” (Titus 2:2)

…Sober, love husbands and children (for young women)…

“THAT THEY MAY TEACH THE YOUNG WOMEN TO BE SOBER, TO LOVE THEIR HUSBANDS, THAT THE WORD OF GOD BE NOT BLASPHEMED.” (Titus 2:4)

…Sober minded (for young men)…

“YOUNG MEN LIKEWISE EXHORT TO BE SOBER MINDED.” (Titus 2:6)

…In behavior as becoming to saints (for aged women)…

“THE AGED WOMEN LIKEWISE, THAT THEY BE IN BEHAVIOUR AS BECOMETH HOLINESS, NOT FALSE ACCUSERS, NOT GIVEN TO MUCH WINE, TEACHERS OF GOOD THINGS;” (Titus 2:3)

…Discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient (for young women)…

“TO BE DISCREET, CHASTE, KEEPERS AT HOME, GOOD, OBEDIENT TO THEIR OWN HUSBANDS, THAT THE WORD OF GOD BE NOT BLASPHEMED.” (Titus 2:5)
