In following the ways of God, not only are there things that we must do, but there are things which we must ask. Did you ever think that part of following God’s ways was to ask for things? Let us take a look at what types of things we are to ask:
Ask and ye shall receive…
“ASK, AND IT SHALL BE GIVEN YOU; SEEK, AND YE SHALL FIND: KNOCK, AND IT SHALL BE OPENED UNTO YOU:” (Matthew 7:7)
This seems pretty straight forward; if we ask for something it is given to us…asking with confidence and humility, if we seek for something and seek it out we shall find it…seeking with care and application, if we knock, the door shall be opened to us…knocking with earnestness and perseverance.
Ask no return of goods…
“GIVE TO EVERY MAN THAT ASKETH OF THEE: AND OF HIM THAT TAKETH AWAY THY GOODS ASK THEM NOT AGAIN.” (Luke 6:30)
This one has an interesting twist which I am sure most people have not thought of or it becomes hard for them to do. For whatever person which asks you for something, we give it to them. Now, when someone takes something away from us, we are not to ask them to return what they have taken.
Ask life for backsliders…
“IF ANY MAN SEE HIS BROTHER SIN A SIN WHICH IS NOT UNTO DEATH, HE SHALL ASK, AND HE SHALL GIVE HIM LIFE FOR THEM THAT SIN NOT UNTO DEATH. THERE IS A SIN UNTO DEATH: I DO NOT SAY THAT HE SHALL PRAY FOR IT.” (1 John 5:16)
We are to pray for fellow believers in Christ who have sinned, but have not committed the sin of blasphemy against the Holy Spirit.
